Note to Members
Spring has been busy with year-end activities. The Pine Glen PTO sponsored some popular events this month. On June 1st, the fifth graders attended their final field trip at the Cedardale water and recreation park. The PTO funded bus costs, water, and T-shirts for this trip. We appreciate the work of Katie Capobianco and Kristen Downie on the terrific Cedardale T-shirts.
The annual Pine Glen BBQ took place on June 5th. Students and their guests enjoyed hamburgers from B.good, hot dogs, grilled chicken, and push-pops under clearing skies. The PTO funded the DJ and a visit by the Red Sox Green Monster! Cafeteria supervisor, Carol Keene won the 50/50 raffle and kindly returned part of her winnings to the Pine Glen Family Fund which helps Pine Glen families in need. We would like to thank Erynn Mitchell, who chaired this event, as well as the many volunteers including: Meg Bond, Tania Conlon, Catherine Gillespie, Judi Golden, Steven Macri, Christine Nicoloro, and Ginna Churchill Shahid.
Children in grades 1-5 enjoyed a fun-filled Field Day on Thursday June 7th. Inflatable rides, water and pizza for volunteers were donated by the PTO. Thanks to all the volunteers and P.E. Instructor Christie Govoni, who organized this event. We received priceless thank-you notes from the students.
Many thanks to Michelle Gaffney for chairing the BEEP Enrichment Committee and for coordinating a special visit to the school by Ben Franklin and Hellen Keller from Historical Perspectives. Each character's life was dramatically reenacted from childhood through adulthood by multi-media, allowing the children to see the process the historical characters went through to achieve their goals. The PTO annually funds programs given by outside performers, authors or illustrators.
Also, the PTO helped to coordinate and provide refreshments to future students who attended the pre-school reading sessions. We would like to thank the Kindergarten teachers and Tania Conlon for chairing this committee.
The PTO hosted a reception for fifth graders and their guests after the moving-up ceremony last Thursday. Sincere thanks go to Aikiko Coram, Ginelle Davidson, and Nancy O' Callaghan who made the extra effort to assist at this event even though their child was not "graduating". Special thanks go to Joanna DeFrancesco, who organized all the details for the gathering.
Finally, fifth graders received yearbooks and DVDs, purchased by the PTO, after the moving-up ceremony. We would like to thank the parents who worked diligently to publish a fantastic yearbook. They include: Gina Accardi, Katie Capobianco, Lisa Crockett-Crowe, Kristen Downie, Marie Grinnell, Lisa MacNeil and Maria Woods. Many thanks go to Kristen, who chaired this committee and spent countless hours on the yearbook and DVD that highlighted special events the students participated in during the school year; she has set the bar high! The books and video will serve as precious reminders for the fifth graders of their days, friends and teachers at Pine Glen. We wish them all the best in middle school.
As many of you know, this will be my final year as PTO Co-President. Thank you for the many well wishes. It has been a pleasure and privilege working with PTO members, students and staff of Pine Glen. I will see some of you at MSMS and BHS. I'm confident that next year's Board will continue the fine work and mission of the PTO. Evident in the aforementioned is how the PTO provides wonderful enrichment for all Pine Glen students. We look forward to working with you next school year and hope you will continue to support the PTO.
Wishing you a terrific and relaxing summer break,
Maria Woods and the Pine Glen PTO Board

5th Grade Moving Up Ceremony - Help Needed
Dear Members,
We need a few parents to help serve refreshments after the moving-up ceremony for fifth graders on Thursday, June 14th from 6 - 8 p.m. Parents of fifth graders will already have set up the room. We just need a few people to serve cake, fruit salad, & drinks and clean up afterward.
TO DATE WE ONLY HAVE ONE VOLUNTEER! We need a few parents of non-fifth graders to step up. We do not expect parents of the Class of 2012 to volunteer, but rather enjoy time with their child and fellow parents for their final gathering at Pine Glen. The same will be done for you when your child "graduates."
If you can help, please contact Joanna DeFrancesco at joanna.defrancesco@gmail.com. We truly appreciate any time you can give.
Thank you so much,
