In your child's backpack this week you will find important PTO information including the 2011-2012 Pine Glen PTO pamphlet with Board contact information, PTO Volunteer Form, Membership Dues envelope, and a flier listing "Free Ways to Support Pine Glen School".

Year End Activities
June is traditionally a busy time for year-end school activities. The Pine Glen PTO has sponsored some popular events this month, in addition to the Pine Glen Barbecue highlighted in a previous email.
Children in grades 1-5 enjoyed a fun-filled Field Day on Thursday, June 2nd. Inflatable rides, water and pizza for volunteers were donated by the PTO. We would like to thank former Principal Jane Dwyer for face painting many of the children. Thanks also to PTO member Robin Hurley, for donating additional pizza when we ran out due to the great number of parent volunteers that came to help. Thanks to all the volunteers and P.E. Instructor Christie Govoni, who chaired this event. We received many priceless thank-you notes from the students.
On Friday, June 3rd, the fifth graders attended their final field trip together at the Cedardale water and recreation park. The PTO funded the bus costs, water, and T-shirts for this trip.
David Biedrzycki an illustrator and author came to the school on Tuesday, June 7th. He engaged the students with his stories on how his characters go from sketches to the cover of his books. He also explained where he gets his ideas. One place is the Harvard Museum of Natural History that was recently visited by the second graders; they thought that was really cool. He was generous with answering the students questions at the end of the presentation. Many thanks to Michelle Gaffney for again chairing the BEEP Enrichment Committee and for coordinating this day. The PTO annually funds an author/illustrator visit.
Finally, the PTO provided and served refreshments to the 5th graders and their guests after the moving-up ceremony last Thursday, June 16th. We would like to thank Lisa Crowe, Joanna DeFrancesco, Kristen Downie, Deb Murphy, and Kruti Thakkar for assisting me. As parents of fourth graders, they were not planning to attend this event with their child, but came to the school to help run this PTO event - an extra effort. Many thanks to Julie Gosselin for purchasing and delivering the refreshments. The fifth-graders received yearbooks, purchased by the PTO, after the ceremony. We would like to thank all the parents who worked on publishing a fantastic yearbook. Especially, Michelle Gaffney, who also chaired this committee. These books will serve as precious reminders of their days, friends and teachers at Pine Glen. We wish them all the best in middle school.
As you can see, the PTO provides wonderful enrichment for all Pine Glen students. We look forward to working with you next school year and hope that you will continue to support the fine work of the PTO.
Wishing you a terrific and relaxing summer break,
Maria Woods and the Pine Glen PTO Board

BOX TOPS!!!
Wednesday, June 8, 2011
We would like to thank everyone who helped make last evening's Pine Glen BBQ such a fun family time. Many thanks to Erynn Mitchell for again chairing this event and much appreciation to all the volunteers who helped run it. With catering from the Outback Steakhouse and music delivered by a DJ, families were able to enjoy dinner near the playground while the children played. Pine Glen families were also treated to a visit by the Lowell Spinners Canaligator and School Superintendent Dr. Eric Conti!
Katie Lyons (Principal Lyons' wife) won the 50/50 raffle and then generously donated her winnings to the Pine Glen Family Fund, that assists Pine Glen families in need. Thank-you Mrs. Lyons! Through the participation of many, we raised $102 for this fund. Thanks also to Catherine Gillespie, our new PTO Co Vice-President, for assisting me at the raffle table.
The next PTO sponsored event is 5th-grade graduation on Thursday, June 16th, 6-8 p.m. We need 4th-grade parents to assist with serving refreshments during the reception because parents of 5th graders will be attending the ceremony. Please contact Maria Woods at 781/270-4584 or woodscounty@verizon.net, if can you help.

PTO Board Members - Thank you
We would like to thank Joanna DeFrancesco for her terrific work as PTO Co-Vice President over the years. She organized the annual PTO membership drive and managed PTO members, committee chairs, and volunteers. Joanna always assumed her responsibilities with much dedication and grace.
We would also like to thank Jolene Fogarty for her many years of service to the Pine Glen community as a volunteer and PTO Treasurer. Jolene too handled her responsibilities with grace and diligence. We will miss her and her family as they join the Memorial community due to redistricting. Pine Glen's loss is Memorial's gain as she joins the Memorial PTO Board as the new Treasurer.
We wish them all the best.

Thank you!
We would like to thank everyone who helped to host yesterday's Staff Appreciation Day at Pine Glen School. We've heard nothing but wonderful comments about the menu and service. The teachers and staff were provided with breakfast and lunch yesterday in their lounge with the help of volunteers and generous donations of food and drink. Gift card donations were raffled off to the staff. Many thanks to Joanna DeFrancesco for organizing this special day. It was a fine way to say thank-you to all members of the Pine Glen staff who dedicate their work to educating and caring for our children.
Again, thank you so much for your support and generosity.

Carnival Thank You
The Annual Pine Glen Carnival sponsored by the PTO was a great success again thanks to the efforts and teamwork of many. We would like to thank all members of the Pine Glen Community who helped to make the Carnival a major spring attraction in the town of Burlington. The event took place with the generous assistance and donations of many parents, high school/former students, teachers, staff, and administration.
Countless thanks go to Carnival Co-Chairs Jolene Fogarty, Michelle Grossman, and Deb Murphy who took care of the many details that needed attention to run a grand-scale event. We sincerely appreciate all their efforts. Many thanks go to Cathy Carney for organizing the Cake Walk and to Principal John Lyons and secretary Julie Gosselin for their support of the Carnival Committee.
Over fifty local businesses participated by donating gift cards/certificates, merchandise, and services to the stage raffle. Please thank them when using their business. Thank you to the Raffle Committee, including Denise Desmond, Jill Giles, Carol McDonald Macri, Beth Reith and Maria Woods for their time-consuming legwork and follow-up to solicit and collect raffle items. A sincere thanks to everyone who donated items to the raffle, especially the room parents and teachers who organized group gifts.
We would also like to thank RE/MAX for advertising and planning to give hot-air balloon rides. Unfortunately, wind conditions made it unfavorable to use the balloon. We will try to get the balloon ride again next year. Thanks also to Carol McDonald Macri for making all the arrangements for the ride. The advertising efforts of Carol and Catherine Gillespie certainly helped to bring many out-of-town visitors to the Carnival. Please see http://pineglencarnival.blogspot.com and https://www.facebook.com/pages/Pine-Glen-Elementary-PTO/187898354563825?ref=ts created by Catherine and Carol for Carnival updates, postings, and photos.
We also would like to thank retired Pine Glen Principal, Jane Dwyer, for her famous face painting skills and D.A.R.E. Officers Steve Cross and Keith Sheppard for their police car ride. Many thanks to the Burlington Fire Department and Firefighters Ernie Covino and Nick Menkello for displaying a fire truck at the front of the school for up-close inspection.
Again, we would like to thank everyone who worked on and attended the Carnival. Proceeds will be used to enrich the educational experience of all Pine Glen students. We look forward to seeing all those smiling faces again at next year's Carnival.
Please note that the next PTO meeting will be held on Thursday, April 7th at 7 p.m.
Hope to see you then,
